Different Projects, Shared Goals
There are various initiatives across Nunavik, Nunavut, and Nunatsiavut that are working towards many of the same goals as the Nanuk Narratives project, including the preservation of Elder knowledge, supporting the continuity of cultural practices, and the contributing to Inuit-led management of wildlife into the future. As such, we are working with a variety of other projects to support our shared ideas.
“Niqivut Silalu Asijjipalliajuq (NSAP): Our Food and Climate Change” (NSAP research program) was awarded funding in 2019. The overall aim of the NSAP research program is to support research about the climate-food-health connection by (1) advancing country food knowledge; (2) pioneering Inuit-led research methods, (3) shaping policy and informing community practice, and (4) developing climate–food–health research capacity in Nunavut. We will be working with the NSAP project to help build visual media capacity among community members in Nunavut in order to document food preservation knowledge relating to polar bears and other species.

UNAAQ
The Unaaq Mens Association of Inukjuak facilitates opportunities for young men to learn cultural skills and knowledge from experienced men and Elders within the community, including hunting, trapping, food preparation, igloo making, and more. The Nanuk Narratives project worked in collaboration with this association to organize a polar bear hunting trip where youth could learn this traditional skill, while also filming the experience.
